During the IITA Summit, IITA paid tribute to three leaders who have dedicated their careers to the advancement of the international inbound travel and tourism industry.
IITA presented outgoing Chairman Peter van Berkel with a special award for his tenure as IITA Chair, leading the organization through tumultuous times during the pandemic and beyond. The award read, “For Exceptional Leadership – Your vision and resilience made a difference, shaped an industry.”
Julie Heizer was recognized for her “unparalled dedication to the international inbound travel industry.” Julie recently retired from her position as the deputy director of the National Travel and Tourism Office. She is now serving as an ambassador for IITA and its inbound insider Steps to Success program.
Chris Thompson, President and CEO of Brand USA, was awarded IITA’s 2024 Leadership Award “in appreciation of (his) leadership and vision for Brand USA.” Chris will retire from Brand USA at the end of May.
